Privacy for the notification list

This statement covers one thing: what happens to the email address you give this website so we can tell you when ReturnSignal opens, and to the request that carries it. It covers this website’s notification list and nothing else.

This is not the privacy policy for the ReturnSignal application. No such policy is published here, and nothing on this page describes how any ReturnSignal software handles anything.

What the list is

A list of email addresses belonging to people who asked to be told when ReturnSignal opens to sellers. Nothing else is asked of you: no name, no company, no role, no phone number and no free-text field. The form has one input and that input is an email address.

Who processes it

Buttondown, an email service, holds and processes the list on our behalf. When you submit the form, ReturnSignal transfers two things to Buttondown from our server: the email address you submitted, so the confirmation email can be delivered, and the IP address your request came from, which Buttondown uses to tell a real signup from an abusive one. ReturnSignal stores neither. We write neither to a database, a log file, an analytics event, a cookie or browser storage, and neither is shown anywhere on this website.

What it is used for

Two messages, and no others:

  1. A confirmation email from Buttondown, sent immediately, asking you to confirm the address. If you do not confirm, the address does not go on the list.
  2. One notice, when ReturnSignal opens to sellers.

There is no newsletter, no marketing sequence and no third message. The list is not sold, rented or shared with anyone else, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

How to unsubscribe

Every message Buttondown sends carries an unsubscribe link. Selecting it removes your address from the list, and it takes effect immediately. If you have unsubscribed and later submit the form again, you are not added back automatically — an opt-out stays an opt-out unless you choose to undo it yourself.

Third-party code on this website

None. There is no analytics script, no advertising pixel, no embed and no third-party iframe on any page of this website. Buttondown is contacted from our server, never from your browser.

Changes

If the scope of this list ever changes, this statement changes with it before the change takes effect.
